SIC: Non-residents Can Be Firefighters

By Camille Sailer

SEA ISLE CITY – Sea Isle City Council met May 18, one of the occasions during the year when the regular meeting day is changed from Tuesday at 10 a.m. to Saturday at 9 a.m. to accommodate those who work and/or do not reside in the municipality.
The public comment portion of the meeting elicited numerous comments and questions as to the cause or causes of the several residential fires of late and what city administration was doing to prevent further fires.
Coupled with those inquiries, there was a question as to why he could not join the city’s fire department: “I asked the fire department and they said since I am not a resident I could not join.” Council President Jack Gibson responded, “That information is not correct. You can certainly apply and serve as a Sea Isle City firefighter as a non-resident.”
