CAPE MAY – In 2007, the city approved changes to the municipal code that authorized the Cape May County Department of Health to conduct inspections of bed-and-breakfast inns (B&Bs) regarding enforcement of all applicable health laws, regulations, and ordinances.
In an ordinance introduced Nov. 20, the city plans to repeal that authority, calling the health department inspections “superfluous” and an “unnecessary expense” for the B&Bs. The ordinance states that the city will assume responsibility since the city “currently inspects bed-and-breakfast establishments and can notify the county Health Department about any health-related matters.”
