Sheehan Settlement OK’d

By Vince Conti

CAPE MAY – Cape May City Council voted Feb. 6 to settle the whistleblower lawsuit brought against the city by Police Capt. Robert Sheehan in March 2015.  Sheehan sued after the city refused to confirm his appointment as permanent chief of police due to his alleged involvement in a compensatory time controversy involving then Lt. Clarence Lear, now the mayor.
Sheehan is to receive $800,000. He will also remain a captain in the department.
The City Council also passed a resolution, 3-2, extending “sincere apologies” to Sheehan and his family for the “needless disruption of his career, his life and his family’s comfort and well-being.”
