STONE HARBOR – Stone Harbor Borough Council approved a new shared services agreement with Middle Township Feb. 5. The arrangement is similar to those in force across the county as municipalities seek to reduce expenses through sharing of staff and equipment.
The impetus for this specific agreement was a request from Middle to use Stone Harbor carpenters to aid in remodeling of space in the Township Hall on Mechanic Street, Court House.
Stone Harbor Public Works Director Grant Russ presented the agreement to council and took a question from Council Member Charles Krafczek concerning the potential for a sharing arrangement focused on access to fresh water.
The thrust of Krafczek’s question was his concern that procedures be developed and in place for the borough to access fresh water from Middle Township in the event that some calamity impacts the shared-water supply for Stone Harbor and Avalon.
The approved agreement does not make provision for sharing access to water, but council agreed that the borough would pursue discussions with Middle Township concerning the setup and availability of emergency access to fresh water supplied by Middle’s supplier, New Jersey-American Water.
