TRENTON – Three bills sponsored by Assemblyman Sam Fiocchi, protecting consumers when choosing or changing electric and gas suppliers were released by the Senate Environment and Energy Committee. Under the three bills, unanimously approved by the Assembly May 14, customers will receive detailed information on pricing, the process for selecting a provider and the terms of the contract between the supplier and consumer.
“There are many variables to consider when deciding which electric or gas supplier to use,” said Fiocchi, R-Cumberland, Cape May and Atlantic. “Consumers can be overwhelmed with too much information or not receive enough to make an informed decision. These bills protect customers and ensure they have the facts. Some suppliers may leave information out, word it in a way that is not understandable or provide it in the fine print, making it difficult to locate. This legislation ensures the consumer understands important facts, including what rate they will pay, how much they can expect to save and how to switch suppliers if they are unhappy.”
Below is a description of the bills approved by the Senate committee today:
A-3849: Requires the BPU to provide on its website links to supplier pricing information for consumers listing electric generating services and gas supply.
A-3850: Requires BPU to establish a process and publish the process for customers to switch energy suppliers.
A-3851: A utility provider must furnish a one-page information sheet summarizing the terms and conditions of the utility-customer contract, including whether the contract is for a fixed rate or a variable rate, and an explanation of the difference between the two.
Cape May – Governor Murphy says he doesn't know anything about the drones and doesn't know what they are doing but he does know that they are not dangerous. Does anyone feel better now?
