AVALON — The county’s second annual Disabilities Awareness Day was attended by hundreds at the Avalon Community Hall on Sat., Nov. 13.
Nearly 60 vendors crammed the hall offering a wide variety of goods and services to persons with all manner of disabilities.
Cape May County String Band performed during the event, and that got many up and dancing.The county Health Department joined with health screenings, flu shots and special registry sign ups.

Tammy DeFranco, disabilities services at Atlantic Cape Community College also provided a presentation about what the college offers to persons with disabilities.
As a tribute to those with disabilities, freeholders on Tue., Nov. 9 passed a resolution and presented it to Paulann Pierson, of the county Office of Disabilities Services, and Sarah Matthews of The Arc of Cape May County.
That resolution noted there are about 56 million Americans with disabilities, including over 1 million New Jersey residents.
Of those, 19,000 are Cape May County residents, according to the resolution.
The document proclaimed Nov. 13 as Cape May County Community Disabilities Awareness Day.
