SEA ISLE CITY — Those attending Sea Isle City’s National Night Out festivities on August 3 were treated to a wide variety of family entertainment — all for free! The City’s police department, who hosted the event, joined forces with numerous businesses and community leaders to provide an evening that was filled with excitement.
As children and their parents entered Sea Isle’s new Marina Park at 42nd and the Bay, they were greeted by several unusual characters, including Barney the Dinosaur, Dora the Explorer and Elmo from Sesame Street. A face painter, strolling entertainment and a live band added to the evening’s enjoyment, as did the 500 free wristbands to Funland Amusement Park, which is also located at Marina Park.
While children were freely enjoying the merry-go-round and other rides at Funland, compliments of owner Jay Gillian, “Band M” filled the air with lively music and Patrick Ahearn of Hob Hallow Puppets strolled through the crowd, introducing families to “Clawed the Friendly Lion.” Anyone who missed dinner at home that night didn’t go hungry, thanks to the free pizza, hot dogs, popcorn and other snacks that were provided by local businesses and civic organizations, including LaCosta Lounge, Camo Hot Dogs of 32nd Street, The Springfield Inn, First Bank of Sea Isle City, Sea Isle Revitalization and Shoobies Restaurant.
After enjoying the rides and free food, festival-goers took a close look at equipment displays and emergency vehicles brought to the event by many first-responder organizations, including Sea Isle’s police department, volunteer ambulance corps and volunteer fire department. Sea Isle City’s Community Emergency Response Team and Emergency Management Services also attended the event, as did members of Cape May County’s Swat Team, which helped round-out a perfect evening at the shore.
