SEA ISLE CITY – Sea Isle resident Eleanor Leigh Kutschera received the praise of Mayor Leonard Desiderio and the Sea Isle City Council for being a semi-finalist in the New Jersey League of Municipalities (NJLM) Future Municipal Leaders Scholarship Competition.
Desiderio said that over 50 municipalities across the state submitted entries for the competition, with Kutschera being one of four Cape May County residents chosen as a semi-finalist.
Kutschera has volunteered her energy in the community in many ways.
“You see Ellie everywhere,” Desiderio said.
Even as a 15-year-old at the height of the pandemic in 2020, Kutschera worked with her mother to create homemade protective masks as a way of combating the Covid virus.
This recognition by the city was not Kutschera’s only award this year. She was a winner of a 2023 Italian American Club of Sea Isle City scholarship.
Other young county residents shared in the recognition from the NJLM Future Municipal Leaders competition.
Alexandra Leadley, of Middle Township, and James Kane, of North Wildwood, were finalists in the competition.
Along with Kutschera, other county semi-finalists were Kaydence Oakley, of Wildwood, Carly Marie Murphy, of Wildwood Crest, and Andrew Karayiannis, of Upper Township.
