SEA ISLE — City Council gave its nod to a resolution increasing the cost of the 43rd Street Utility Reconstruction Project at its meeting on Tue., Oct. 11.
The contract originally cost the city $242,663.46. During the course of construction, however, several changes were made resulting in an additional $31,739.96 to be added to the bill.
“What caused the overrun?” John Faith, a resident of 43rd Street, asked the Council.
“There were add-ons and deductions,” responded Business Administrator George Savastano. He noted that the city’s original estimated cost of the project was $300,000.
Add-ons included cleaning out an additional 14 additional sanitary sewers at a cost of $400 per unit. Additional costs included: trench restoration and pipe work costing $3,700, two additional sanitary sewer laterals at $2,000 and storm and sewer work at Park Road costing $5,500.
The largest add-on, $16,500, was due to unmarked utility lines at Central Avenue, which caused the rerouting of sewer lines.
