Sea Isle Forbids Balloon Releases

By Camille Sailer

SEA ISLE CITY – Sea Isle City City Council, at its Oct. 10 meeting, approved an ordinance on second reading to prohibit the release of balloons inflated with helium or other gases that are lighter than air, “sky lanterns” or other similar airborne devices into the atmosphere. The intent of the ordinance is to protect against dangerous pieces of litter that create harm to animals and present fire and safety hazards. A similar ordinance, as reported in the Herald Aug. 4, was introduced in Stone Harbor for the same reasons, joining Avalon and Cape May where such a regulation is already implemented.
