SEA ISLE CITY – In March, Sea Isle City Police Chief Thomas D’Intino returned from Quantico, Virginia, where he participated in a specialized training program for law enforcement officials at the FBI’s National Academy. The ten-week course is designed to improve the administration of justice in police departments and other law enforcement agencies at home and abroad, while raising standards, knowledge and cooperation worldwide.
During his time in Quantico, D’Intino was immersed in an intense curriculum with 267 other law enforcement officials from the United States and 27 partner nations around the world. National Academy training is offered to state and local police officers, sheriff’s department officials, military police and federal law enforcement agencies. Participation is by invitation only through a nomination process. Only six other police officers from New Jersey attended the school with D’Intino, who is the first official from Sea Isle City to be invited to the National Academy.
According to D’Intino, he attended a series of classroom sessions, which focused on law, behavioral science, forensic science, understanding terrorism/terrorist mindsets, leadership development, communication, health and fitness. He also received a wide range of leadership and specialized training. Additionally, he and his fellow students shared ideas, techniques and experiences, which helped create lifelong partnerships that span state and national boundaries.
“Attending the National Academy is a once in a lifetime experience,” said the Chief. “One of the many highlights from my time in Quantico is the friendships I made with my classmates…the bonds we’ve made will last a lifetime. The ability for me to reach out to any of my colleagues – and all that I have learned while attending the Academy – will definitely benefit Sea Isle City.”
“Less than one-percent of law enforcement worldwide is offered an invitation to attend the National Academy, and I am extremely honored to have been invited,” D’Intino added.
In addition to forming valuable relationships with other law enforcement officials and returning home with a wealth of information, D’Intino also endured intensive physical training at Quantico, where he swam a total of 34-miles in an Olympic pool and voluntarily completed the FBI’s grueling 6.1-mile “Yellow Brick Road” endurance course, where participants climb over walls, run through creeks, scale rock faces with ropes, crawl under barbed wire in muddy water and perform other demanding physical challenges. Created by the United States Marine Corps, the infamous Yellow Brick Road is so named because brightly painted bricks are used to show runners the way through the wooded trail. Anyone who successfully completes the course receives a commemorative yellow brick, which the Chief now displays in his office next to the blue brick he received for completing the National Academy’s 34-mile swim challenge.
On April 9, D’Intino, a Sea Isle City native, was honored during a local City Council meeting, where he received high praise from Cape May County Sheriff Gary Schaffer and Cape May County Clerk Rita Marie Fulginiti, who were in attendance just to congratulate him. During the meeting, D’Intino also received a Joint Legislative Commendation from Senator Jeff Van Drew and Assemblymen Nelson Albano and Bob Andrzejczak, a Certificate of Congressional Recognition from Congressman Frank LoBiondo, and a crystal plaque from Sea Isle City Mayor Leonard Desiderio.
“We are all very proud of Chief D’Intino,” said Mayor Desiderio. “He continues to bring honor and prestige to our Police Department – and to our entire community. Attending the National Academy is an amazing accomplishment. I was honored and proud to attend a commencement ceremony on March 22 in Quantico, where our police chief received his certificate of accomplishment from FBI Director Robert Mueller.”
“By attending the National Academy, Chief D’Intino made himself a better police officer, and he also made an already great police department better as well,” added the mayor.
Cape May County – Inept, clueless, inadequate don't even scratch the surface of "NOLA's" police chief, mayor and governor, I cringe at the thought of two more major events happening soon, did you…
