Sea Isle City Police Charge Suspect in Church Burglary

SEA ISLE CITY — On Sat. Oct. 16, Sea Isle City Police responded to an alarm at St. Joseph’s Church.
Witnesses observed a male running from a side door to the church as the alarm was going off. One witness gave a clothing description and vehicle description to police.
The suspect vehicle was stopped at JFK and Cini. The driver Gregory Devery-Haffert , 20, of Sea Isle City, was identified as the male leaving the church.
Haffert admitted during an interview as to damaging a metal locker while trying gain entry to the locker but fled the scene when he set off the alarm trying to gain entry to the tabernacle.
A loaded bb gun was found during a consensual search of Haffert’s vehicle.
Haffert was charged with Burglary, Criminal Mischief and unlawful possession of a weapon.
