SEA ISLE CITY – At the June 15 meeting of Sea Isle City Council, Mayor Leonard Desiderio announced that the city’s police department has again won accreditation for the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police (NJSACOP). It is the fourth time the department has received accreditation since 2014.
In his remarks to the council, Desiderio noted, “Accreditation is a time-proven method of assisting law enforcement agencies to measure and improve their performance.”
The NJSACOP has been designated as an independent credentialing body by the U.S. Department of Justice.
Accreditation represents a significant professional achievement. It requires a clear set of standards and professional objectives, which are then used to measure existing operations. The process of self-examination is followed by a review by a team of independent assessors.
Desiderio congratulated Police Chief Anthony Garreffi and the entire department. Desiderio also singled out Capt. Steve Conte, who oversaw and guided the process for the department.
