SEA ISLE CITY – Sea Isle City Council approved a resolution Feb. 26, that introduced its 2019 $24.6-million budget that calls for $17.7 million to be raised by taxes.
“This budget contains funding of the various priorities that council and Sea Isle residents want such as enhanced flood control alerts and new recreational amenities such as the kayak launch,” said Business Administrator George Savastano.
After the meeting, Chief Financial Officer Paula Doll provided additional details about this year’s municipal budget.
The budget itself represents a decrease. The current fund is down $102,767, which Mayor Leonard Desiderio cited as a highlight of his administration in his State of the City message to council and residents Feb. 13. Doll attributed the decrease to a reduction in health benefit premiums for retirees.
Doll stated that $17.7 million will be raised from taxes. The municipal tax rate will be .380 per $100 of assessed value, reflecting a one half cent reduction. Doll said that Sea Isle’s municipal purpose tax rate in 2018 was .385 per $100 of assessed value.
Second reading and public comment on the budget will be held at the March 26 Council meeting.
