Sea Isle City Honors Municipal Alliance Volunteer of the Year

By Press Release

SEA ISLE CITY – The members of Sea Isle City’s Municipal Alliance recently announced that Irene Bukowski, 90, is their 2014 Volunteer of the Year.
Mrs. Bukowski, a year-round resident of Sea Isle City, is originally from Kingston, PA, and later Philadelphia. After retiring in Sea Isle City, she became very involved with worthwhile community efforts. In addition to being an active member of numerous organizations in and around the resort, Mrs. Bukowski has also volunteered her time during Sea Isle’s annual New Year’s Eve celebrations for families, which are hosted by the local Municipal Alliance Committee.
As is the case in other communities in the Garden State, Sea Isle City’s Municipal Alliance is an arm of the Governor’s Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse. Sea Isle’s annual New Year’s Eve celebration is the Alliance’s largest – and most well-attended – event of the year.
According to Sea Isle City Municipal Alliance member and Recreation Program Coordinator Nicole Holt, Mrs. Bukowski is a fine asset to the New Year’s Eve program.
“Irene volunteers as a greeter each Dec. 31, and she always welcomes our attendees with kindness and a smile,” said Ms.Holt. “The New Years Eve event is a wonderful program and Irene’s contribution helps keep it that way.”
To shine a spotlight on the much-loved nonagenarian, Sea Isle City’s Municipal Alliance Coordinator Denise Barry, Mayor Leonard Desiderio and the members of City Council honored Mrs. Bukowski during the Nov. 12 City Council meeting, which was attended by many of the honoree’s family members and friends. At that time, the Mayor declared Nov. 12 to be “Irene Bukowski Day” in Sea Isle City.
“I simply enjoy being with people,” said Mrs. Bukowski after the ceremony. “I like to volunteer for good causes whenever I can…volunteering energizes me.”
