SEA ISLE CITY – During their annual Safety Breakfast March 20, the Atlantic County Municipal Joint Insurance Fund (JIF) presented a Special Safety Recognition Award to Sea Isle City Beach Patrol Capt. Renny Steele.
Among the 41 municipalities that make up the JIF, 15 nominations were submitted this year and five individuals received Special Safety Recognition Awards – including Steele. The award was presented to Steele in recognition of his “commitment in implementing outstanding safety initiatives to protect Sea Isle City beaches.”
According to Sea Isle City Senior Employee Benefits Clerk Kellie Seib, who coordinates Sea Isle’s Safety Committee, the JIF’s Special Safety Recognition Awards are given to people who demonstrate a commitment to safety above and beyond what would be considered routine. Seib also stated that Steele is deserving of this award because “he never seems to stop thinking about safety.”
“We can always count on Renny to offer forward-thinking safety ideas and suggestions during Sea Isle’s Safety Committee meetings,” added Seib. “He has a genuine concern for public safety and the safety of his own department as well as other departments within the city.”
“Capt. Steele constantly looks for ways to improve the safety of beach goers,” said Sea Isle City E.M.S. Supervisor Kristine Lynch, who is also on the resort’s Safety Committee. “He not only encompasses his own department, but he also reaches out to other City departments to ensure that events and emergencies flow in a cohesive manner.”
Steele, 68, has been a member of the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol for 48 years and has served as the organization’s captain for 32 years. Originally from Collingswood, he is a retired guidance counselor and educator from the Delran Township School District.
“Anyone who has ever met Renny Steele knows that he is a dedicated and honorable lifeguard and leader, who is very safety-minded,” said Sea Isle City Mayor Leonard Desiderio. “We are very thankful that the JIF recognized him.”
