SEA ISLE CITY – At Sea Isle City’s Council meeting Jan. 22, Mayor Leonard Desiderio announced that Sea Isle Boulevard, which serves as the main road on and off the island, was up and running.
Both lanes have been resurfaced and striped, and are open to traffic. The mayor added that the project will be fully completed before summer, one year ahead of schedule. A final layer of asphalt will be put down to smooth the surface and any lingering issues will be addressed.
On May 13, 2014, freeholders awarded a contract to South State, Inc. for the Sea Isle Boulevard improvement project. The project raised the roadway by approximately 4-5 feet and installed street lighting, as well as new guardrails.
The $12.7-million project, one of several flood-prone causeways that the county has addressed over the past 10 years, raised the roadway above the 100-year floodplain, meaning that it will accommodate the worst flooding seen in the past 100 years.
