Sand Shifting Job Ends

By Vince Conti

AVALON – Avalon Business Administrator Scott Wahl told borough council May 23 that the sand back passing project had been completed. The north-end beaches, badly damaged by a series of spring storms, have been restored in time for the start of the season.
The project moved sand from a naturally-created sandbar in the areas of 32nd to 40th streets to beaches from 10th to 14th streets. Wahl said the project was completed ahead of schedule and was under budget. The work was done by the borough’s Public Works Department.
Wahl emphasized that the 33,000 cubic yards of sand came from the sandbar and not the existing dry-sand beach.
