Sand Lost, Gained

PETERSBURG – Upper Township Engineer Paul Dietrich reported to Upper Township Committee April 23 that he had received results from Stockton University’s Coastal Research Center’s report for 2017. “Last year, we lost a lot of sand, and depth of sand, especially on the north end of Strathmere’s beaches, but over the summer the beach grew a bit.
“Some of this is ‘dry beach’ where the sand is in the shallows under high water. This still helps preserve our beach fill and prevents further erosion as the waves break farther out before they reach shore and dunes,” it stated.
