COURT HOUSE – Mayor Timothy Donohue updated the public March 4, on the status of township efforts to deliver fresh water to Del Haven.
Donohue said the most viable plan continues to be a connection with Lower Township MUA (Municipal Utilities Authority), which has lines running close to Del Haven. Projected expense tabled an earlier plan to bring water mains to Del Haven from Whitesboro in order to use the township’s main water supplier, New Jersey-American Water.
Donohue said that saltwater intrusion made the need to bring fresh water to the area an important goal. He noted that the project would require a mandatory hook up for all residents.
Any project with Lower Township MUA would be dependent on an arrangement to bring water through Lower Township from Wildwood. “Wildwood is the one that actually has the unused allocation,” Donohue said. “If we had to wait for Lower Township to request a higher allocation from the state it would add years to the project,” he added.
If an agreement is reached, Donohue said the project duration would be about two years.
