CREST HAVEN – In September, the county Department of Human Resources and Training began a safety recognition program, according to Jeffrey Lindsay, director of Human Resources. He told freeholders Oct. 28 the purpose was to create a safer work environment for employees, and heighten awareness of incorporating safe practices into their tasks.
Part of the program is overseen by William Holmes, risk manager, who inspects departments and buildings. He notes safe and unsafe conduct by workers, Lindsay said. Unsafe practices are used as teaching opportunity for them, and safe practices are written up on a thank you or recognition slip and forwarded.
In September there were six instances of safe or positive conduct. Names of those workers will be placed into a raffle. Once a month certificates will be issued to those workers.
The traffic signal technicians who received recognition and “schwags” were members of the Traffic Signal Division of the county Public Works Department. They were Supervisor Michael Haggerty, Gary Langstaff Jr., and Michael Rutkowski.
Holmes observed them Sept. 12 doing everything they could to be safe, Lindsay said. They used the proper equipment and procedures when working on a traffic signal Stone Harbor Boulevard and Bayberry Drive.
Vice Director Leonard Desiderio extended the board’s thanks for the employees’ work. The “swags” included T-shirts, duffel bags and coolers. A photo of the trio was taken that was to appear in a county newsletter promoting the safety awareness program.
