CREST HAVEN – Time and salt water have taken their toll on the railings of Townsend’s Inlet Bridge linking Avalon and Sea Isle City. For that reason, freeholders approved a contract Sept. 12 for $2.7 million to Thomas Barry Marine Construction of South Dennis.
According to the resolution awarding the contract, the firm was one of seven to submit bids Sept. 6. County Engineer Dale Foster told the board the Barry firm had installed similar railings on the Corson’s Inlet Bridge in Strathmere. “They are experienced,” said Foster.
Bids on the project ranged from Barry’s with four bids over $7 million.
The railings will be galvanized in a hot bath of the coating and painted. With such a coating, Foster said the railings should last 25 years. “The ones on the Great Channel Bridge are 14 years old,” he said.
In other action, the board made appointments or reappointments to various boards:
* Virginia Loveland was appointed to the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (R.S.V.P.) Community Advisory Council. Her term ends Dec. 31, 2019.
* To the Women’s Advisory Commission Susan Adelizzi-Schmidt of Somers Point was reappointed while Joan Kramar of Stone Harbor and Dottie Pearson of Cape May were appointed to terms that expire Sept. 11, 2020.
