COURT HOUSE – The Cape May County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the Cape May County Department of Health launched a discount prescription drug program for county residents in July 2010. Since that time, the Cape May County Rx Card has been used to lower costs on over 15,000 prescription medications.
“In the last six months, on average, residents have used the discount program about 1,100 times each month,” said Health Officer Kevin Thomas. “Each time the card is used, residents are saving money on prescription drugs and other needed health benefits,” he added.
The Cape May County Rx Card is available to everyone, regardless of income, age or insurance status. There is no application to complete and there are no claim forms to file. Simply show your Cape May County Rx Card along with a valid prescription at a participating pharmacy to receive the discount.
“The Cape May County Rx Card was launched to help uninsured and underinsured residents of the County afford their prescription medications. However, the program can also be used by people who have health insurance coverage with no prescription benefits, which is common in many health plans,” said Thomas.
Additionally, people who have prescription coverage can use this program for non-formulary or non-covered drugs.
Apart from saving on prescription drugs, the Cape May County Rx Card also offers savings on eyeglasses, diabetic supplies, Lasik surgery, hearing aids, and teeth whitening. These services must be accessed directly through the service provider for each program. The contact information for these services is located on the back of the card and is also online.
The Cape May County Rx Card is available at the Department of Health, located at 6 Moore Road (building #17) in Cape May Court House and at libraries throughout the County. Cape May County residents can also download a free card, search drug pricing and locate participating pharmacies online. Go to www.cmchealth.net, click on “prescription card” in the hot topics box, then click on the red text in the box.
The Cape May County Department of Health has an agreement with UNA Networks of America to offer these health discounts for Cape May County residents. If you have questions about the available benefits, call the UNA Networks of America customer service number, toll-free at 1-877-321-6755. Many of the programs and services offered by UNA Networks of America are accessed through the internet. If you do not have a computer or access to the internet, all Cape May County libraries have computers and free internet access that are available for your use.
