WOODBINE – Mayor William Pikolycky informed Borough Council at its Aug. 17 meeting that he had followed up regarding concerns of residents and its own on the subject of the county’s proposal to install centerline rumble strips on several major municipal roads.
Joining other county municipalities which also have expressed reservations about the strips’ installation in their communities, Pikolycky said he had sent a letter to County Engineer Dale Foster expressing those concerns.
The letter read: “…Regarding the installation of centerline rumble strips in the borough to be installed as part of a countywide highway safety program, I have reviewed…and have some concerns about the potential noise and quality-of-life issues that these rumble strips may create in the more heavily-developed residential and commercial areas of the town.”
Pikolycky wrote that the rumble strips should not be installed on those streets he highlighted.
The mayor referred to a map which indicated with specificity where there are issues regarding strips installation because of the dense housing neighborhoods they would traverse.
Pikolycky noted he was still waiting for a response from Foster and that he had heard installation could begin in the fall.
No one from the public attended the Aug. 17 meeting to offer their opinions. However, at previous Woodbine Council meetings, members representing their constituents have expressed their combined worries about the issues Pikolycky described in his letter to Foster.
