Rio Grande Avenue Construction Continues

WILDWOOD – Crunch time is approaching for the county’s Rio Grande Avenue project, which has left traffic in and out of Wildwood restricted to one lane in each direction, and the road in disarray, as Memorial Day Weekend creeps closer.
“Obviously, it is a very important artery for our community,” said City Engineer Jim Oris at the Jan. 22 Wildwood Board of Commissioners meeting. “We want to make sure all of the needs are met.”
Traffic will eventually be flipped to the side that is being worked on, so that construction can begin on the opposite side. There is, as of now, no indication to when that changeover will take place, though Oris said it would not happen until after President Donald Trump’s visit Jan. 28.
Oris added that City Administrator Carl Groon is “very concerned with the end game. They really need to be done before Memorial Day. That’s a big concern that Groon has been bringing up routinely, that if they’re not moving over to the next phase, that’s certainly going to impact the overall schedule.”
Oris said a meeting is scheduled soon, which would give him a better understanding of the timeline.
