CREST HAVEN – Freeholder Will Morey informed attendees at the board’s regular meeting May 24 that there was a meeting held a week ago regarding the Rio Grande Avenue project that will impact the entrance into Wildwood. He added that this project will address local flooding by raising the roadbed, include traffic engineering to ease access to the city as well as add some aesthetic enhancements.
Morey also noted the Delaware River and Bay Authority will be breaking ground soon on two new buildings at the Cape May County Airport. These buildings will be located off Hornet Road.
Freeholder Kristine Gabor mentioned that she attended a news conference earlier that day with Cape May County Prosecutor Robert Taylor and others who provided information about the ongoing opiate addiction problem in the county.
She urged residents over 60 to take a needs-assessment survey regarding what might be needed to make access to the county beaches easier for seniors. She stated this survey can be found on the county website.
Freeholder E. Marie Hayes described a program called “Dream Night” that offers children with severe health problems and those with special needs a free night at the Zoo. The event will be held June 3 between 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. This is a private event; those interested in more information can call 465-5271.
Several Social Services related contracts were renewed or modified by freeholders. These services to Cape May County residents include the following: Cape Counseling received contract renewals for the existing Adult Intensive Outpatient Screening program ($327,897), and the Family Adolescent Alcohol program ($92,361). Maryville Inc. received an increase of $7,650 for their Adult Detoxification contract and the same amount to increase short-term residential services for eligible residents of Cape May County. Another resolution authorized modifications to implement an agreement with Cape Regional Home Health Care LLC for the administration of home health care services for the residents of Cape May County.
Other resolutions passed by the board included an authorization for a shared services agreement with Lower Township that permits the temporary reassignment of sheriff’s officers to a special event hosted by Lower Township June 12 for the Escape the Cape Triathlon at $60 per hour, per officer. Another resolution authorized a contract change with Buell Kratzer Powell LTD for the existing Lower Township Public Safety Building in the amount of $2,629 to conduct infrared testing of the roof to detect moisture.
