STONE HARBOR — Capt. Paul Reynolds will be the borough’s next police chief.
The announcement was made at the Tue., March 15 Borough Council meeting.
In a release, Chief William Toland stated that Mayor Suzanne Walters accepted the recommendation of the Public Safety Committee to name Reynolds as his successor.
The mayor stated that Reynolds has served on the Stone Harbor Police Department since 1985 as a Special Police Officer and in 1986 was hired as a Patrol Officer. In 1997 he was promoted to Patrol Sergeant, Detective Sergeant in 2003, and was promoted to Captain in 2005.
Reynolds is a 2010 graduate of the FBI’s Law Enforcement Executive Development Program held at Princeton University and the New Jersey Chief’s of Police 13 week Leadership and Command Course. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Stockton Collage and a Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Saint Joseph’s University.
Administration of oath to Reynolds as chief will take place at the first Borough Council meeting May. At that time, other anticipated promotions of captain, sergeant, and new patrol officer will take place.
Toland, at Borough Council’s Feb. 15 meeting, rose to support Reynolds as his successor.
Some 13 members of the police department stood in the rear of the room as he spoke, in a show of unity behind the chief.
He said Reynolds was well qualified to serve as the next chief of police.
