PETERSBURG – During public comment at Upper Township’s Committee meeting Oct. 9, Committee member Hobart Young fielded a question from a resident who was concerned about what had happened to the memorial pickets that formed the fencing around the Fort Nuwi Playground at Andrew’s World at Caldwell Park on Stagecoach Road. She noted that “the pickets have enormous sentimental value, and we want to make sure they don’t get misplaced.” Andrew’s World is named for a toddler who drowned in a pool accident. Construction of the playground was funded in part with individual donations to provide a memorial to Andrew and names of donors are on each picket. “Now that we’re making improvements to the park and playground, we’ve removed the pickets and have them stored at the municipal building. We’re discussing whether to return them to those who donated and whose name is on them, or we also are trying to figure out how to appropriately repurpose them,” said Young.
