AVALON – In mid-September, South Jersey Gas will continue its resiliency project begun last spring in Avalon.
The project is aimed at the installation of excess flow valves (EFV) that protect homes from damage to gas lines.
The valves are placed between the utility’s gas main and a homeowner’s meter. They are designed to restrict service to a property when the gas flow through the valve exceeds safe limits.
The project will extend added resiliency to the utility’s infrastructure in the event of adverse weather events and other emergencies.
Beginning in the fall, the utility’s contractor will complete the installations and begin final paving. Work is expected to be completed by Thanksgiving.
The fall phase of the project will involve an additional 400 homes. Homeowners will be contacted directly by the utility.
Completion of the work and the subsequent paving operations are scheduled to be completed by May 10, 2020.
