Resident Questions Recent Fires

SEA ISLE CITY – At Sea Isle City’s Council meeting Jan. 8, a long-time resident asked if there was more that could be done to prevent residential fires, such as have occurred recently over the holidays in the municipality.
“I can assure you we adhere to all provisions of the Uniform Construction Code and carefully review all construction before and during building,” said Business Administrator George Savastano. “There have been suggestions that we mandate sprinklers in all new residential construction, but under state law we are not permitted to do so. Only for residences of more than three stories and commercial buildings can we require sprinkler systems.”
