PETERSBURG – Upper Township Engineer Paul Dietrich summarized the findings of the latest Stockton University Coastal Research Center report Sept. 24.
It covers Third Quarter/Summer 2018 for the municipality’s beach area of Strathmere. “South of Vincent Avenue there is more sand, and the report indicates modest beach gains. North around Sea Cliff, there is very severe erosion however with six-foot drop-offs. We’re asking the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for permits so we can do some ‘sand back-passing’ to alleviate the situation there.”
Mayor Richard Palombo asked Dietrich to record the dates when he contacted DEP so that the township can request emergency action if approval is not received soon.
