Reorganizations Set Tone for New Year

CORRECTION: Stone Harbor Borough Council reorganization is Jan. 7 at 4:30 p.m.
COURT HOUSE – The New Year will mean some new faces in local government offices. Others will be taking oaths to return to seats they won in the November election.
Freeholders
The reorganization meeting of the Board of Chosen Freeholders will take place at 5 p.m. Jan. 3, 2014. That meeting will be held in the Freeholders’ Meeting Room at the County Administration Building, 4 Moore Road, Court House.
Freeholder Director Gerald M. Thornton, re-elected to serve a three-year term, will be sworn during the meeting. His oath will be administered by U.S. Rep. Frank A. LoBiondo (R-2nd). Thornton served as freeholder from 1976 to 1987 and from 1995 to the present.
Also taking her oath will be E. Marie Hayes. Appointed and sworn in February 2013 to the vacant seat left when M. Susan Sheppard resigned after being elected Surrogate, Hayes won her first term as freeholder running with Thornton.
To be chosen at the meeting by the board will be the director and vice-director, posts held by Thornton and Leonard Desiderio. Departments will be also be assigned.
Cape May
The reorganization of City Council will take place Jan. 1 at noon in the City Hall Auditorium, 643 Washington St.
West Cape May
Also on New Year’s Day, Pamela Kaithern, Peter Burke and Carole Sabo will take oaths as Borough Commission reorganizes at noon. The ceremony will take place in Borough Hall, 732 Broadway.
Upper Township
New members of Upper Township Committee, Hobart (Hobie) Young and John Coggins will take their seats on the governing body Jan. 3 at 6:30 p.m. in Upper Township Municipal Building, 2100 Tuckahoe Road, Petersburg.
Wildwood Crest
Borough of Wildwood Crest will be governed by returning Borough Commissioners Don Cabrera, Carl Groon and Joyce Gould during 2014. Reorganization is scheduled to occur Jan. 3 at 9:30 a.m. in Borough Hall, 6101 Pacific Avenue.
Woodbine
The borough’s swearing-in ceremony will take place Jan. 5 at 2 p.m. in the Municipal Building, 501 Washington Ave.
Councilwoman Mary Helen Perez will be sworn to her second term by County Clerk Rita Fulginiti. Council President Eduardo Ortiz will begin his seventh term on council taking his oath from Freeholder Director Gerald Thornton.
Mayor William Pikolycky will deliver his annual State of the Borough Address.
Middle Township
Middle Township Committee’s reorganization is scheduled for Jan. 6 at 6 p.m. in Middle Township Municipal Building, 33 Mechanic St., Court House. At that time Michael Clark will take his oath of office to begin his first term on the three-member governing body. Also to be selected by committee will be the mayor.
Lower Township
The annual reorganization and regular meeting of Lower Township Council will be held Jan. 6, at 6 p.m. in the meeting room of Township Hall, 2600 Bayshore Road, Villas. Action will be taken.
North Wildwood
When reorganization takes place Jan. 7 at 6 p.m. in City Council Room, 901 Atlantic Ave., Mayor-elect Patrick Rosenello will take his oath of office and assume the duties formerly held by Mayor William Henfey, who did not seek reelection in November.
Also taking oaths at the meeting and returning to office will be Councilman at Large Edwin W. Koehler, 1st Ward Councilwoman Margaret Bishop, and 2nd Ward Councilman Salvatore Zampirri.
Stone Harbor
Set by statute, Borough Council will reorganize Jan. 7 at 4:30 p.m. in Borough Hall, 9508 Second Ave. At that time Councilmembers Barry Mastrangelo and Albert Carusi will take oaths to return to governing body. Also selected at the meeting will be council president for the New Year, and departmental assignments will be made.
Dennis Township
Democrats John Murphy and Brian O’Connor will take their oaths of office Jan. 7 at 6:30 p.m. when Dennis Township Committee reorganizes.
