AVALON — Borough Hall here is reopening gradually throughout the week of July 21. Ten weeks of work to install new heating and air conditioning systems now comes to a close and government functions return to the hall.
However, Borough Council meetings will continue at the Avalon Community Center through the month of July and return to the hall in August.
“Avalon’s government didn’t skip a beat during this major construction project,” Business Administrator Andrew Bednarek said.
Borough employees operated out of temporary trailers and offices to give work crews space and time to get work done safely. Borough Hall was closed May 12 with government functions of tax collection, finance, zoning, construction, clerk, administration, planning, courts and public information all relocated to the Avalon Public Works building at 13th Street and Dune Drive.
Some employees were relocated to temporary trailers in the parking lot behind the hall. Those trailers will be removed by the end of the month and all government operations will resume in the hall by the end of the week. Court operations will return to the hall July 28.
Construction continues on a brand new Public Safety Complex located next to Borough Hall, on Dune Drive, between 30th and 31st streets. Work on the building began in 2007, and the first phase of the construction project will be finished by the end of this year. The project will be completely wrapped up early in spring 2009.
The new Public Safety Complex will house the police and fire departments, emergency management, rescue squad, beach tag office and communication functions of the borough.
