Pug’s Mug Goes Galactic

Pug’s Mug Goes Galactic

By Vince Conti

CAPE MAY – On July 15, Cape May Police Officer Michael Lesage found a dog named Bean running loose, apparently lost. No one could have suspected then that Bean was about to become an internet star.
Police turned to Facebook to try to locate Bean’s owner. In the spirit of having some fun with the pug, police posted Bean’s mug shot with a caption that warned “This is what happens when you run away from home.” Not long after, Bean’s owners reclaimed their pet, delivering cookies to police as a thank you. The cookies were deemed Bean’s “bail.”
With the dog safely home, the incident showed Police Chief Anthony Marino how quickly social media can enlarge the audience for police activity. Marino said that the Facebook page with Bean’s mug shot had 980,000 views.
