CAPE MAY – At the last meeting of 2018, Cape May City Council adopted two ordinances. Neither elicited citizen comment during the required hearing.
One ordinance repeals certain inspection requirements for bed-and-breakfast inns (B&Bs) in the city. Previous to the adoption the city had authorized the county Department of Health to conduct inspections of B&Bs with regard to applicable health regulations.
Under the change, the city will continue its regular inspections of B&Bs and will notify the County Health Department of any relevant matters it discovers.
Eliminating the separate Health Department inspections saves the B&Bs an “unnecessary expense.”
The second ordinance dealt with regulations that govern the Fire Prevention Bureau. The new ordinance clarifies ambiguities in the municipal code and adjusts the fee structure accordingly.
