WEST WILDWOOD ─ “We are ready to go out to bid,” said Mayor Christopher Fox during commissioners’ reports at the Oct. 7 meeting.
Borough residents and commissioners gathered at 7 p.m. and the meeting was “well-attended.”
Fox gave an update on the borough’s extensive street reconstruction project, saying “We are put on hold because the governor has not signed the transportation (Trust Fund) bill yet.”
According to Fox, Cape May County officials have “signed-off” on the Open Space funding to allow for the borough’s new park that will feature a bandstand, kayak launch, and playground.
Fox and borough officials hope to have the project completed by spring  2017.
Resolutions
Under resolutions, Donna Frederick was reappointed as the municipal clerk.
Trick or Treat hours will commence at 5 pm. Oct. 31 and will extend to 8 p.m.
The borough engineer was authorized to “prepare plans and permitting documents for the bulkhead repair at Bay and Poplar avenues.”
A “leasing and management agreement” was also authorized between the borough and the county for “block 103, lots 2.08, 2.09, 2.12. . . Under the county’s Open Space and Farmland Preservation.” According to Fox, the lots are designated for a park.
During reports from the commissioners, Fox updated residents on the resolutions passed at a special meeting held on Sept. 12.
The resolutions made provision for the borough’s street reconstruction project and, according to Fox, the borough is waiting for the governor’s signature on the Transportation Trust Fund bill before placing the project for bid.
Commissioner Cornelius Maxwell said, “We have two volunteer firefighters here,” and welcomed them.
Maureen Smith, president of the Ladies Auxiliary, announced that the auxiliary would be “assisting” in the islandwide clean-up.
Concerning future fundraisers for the fire department, Smith explained that several members are in the midst of their homes being raised. “The ladies are kind off sitting back,” said Smith.
However, Smith is anticipating the children’s Christmas party and future events.
Public Comments
During public comment, Smith asked when the borough-wide property evaluation will take place. Fox replied that the revaluation would take place in 2017.
Frederick answered a question concerning the posting of meeting minutes online. “We’ve had a couple of issues,” Frederick admitted and said those issues would be corrected.
Fox and fellow commissioners look forward to November and the election season; with no other candidates running for borough commission, the present commissioners are running unopposed.
