TRENTON — Gov. Chris Christie, announced today that “Powerball” will make its long-awaited debut in the Garden State. The widely popular multi-state game will be available at lottery retailers throughout New Jersey beginning Jan. 31 according to a release from the governor’s office.
“Powerball has the potential to be a solid revenue generator for the State in support of education and institutions,” said Christie. “The revenue translates directly into support for such beneficiaries as our K-12 and college students, our veterans, and our developmentally disabled.”
“With this Jan. 31st launch, New Jersey joins the neighboring States of Pennsylvania, New York and Delaware in making this incredibly popular multi-state game available at lottery retailers,” said Acting Lottery Executive Director Steven Palmieri. “Powerball promises to bring something new and exciting to New Jersey Lottery players—who will now have the opportunity to participate in multi-state drawings with large jackpots four times a week.”
Game guides and bet slips for Powerball will be available later in the month of January at local Lottery retailers for players to review and use.
Drawings for Powerball will occur Wednesday and Saturday evenings at approximately 11 p.m. The first drawing will take place on Feb. 3. A Powerball player wins based upon how many winning numbers are matched. All current lottery rules and regulations, including those related to security and responsible play, also apply to Powerball.
