Police Still Looking for Boy Who Disappeared 18 Years Ago

By Herald Staff

COURT HOUSE — County Prosecutor Robert L. Taylor and Middle Township Police Chief Christopher Leusner announce that today Nov. 25 marks the 18th anniversary of the disappearance of Mark Himebaugh from the Del Haven section of the township.
According to a release, on that date 1991, Maureen Himebaugh called the Middle Township police in the early evening hours and reported that Mark had not returned home from playing in the neighborhood. Mark was eleven years of age at the time of his disappearance.
A massive search of the area was conducted and Mark has never been located. Countless leads have been investigated, and innumerable investigative hours have gone into this case.
The case of Jaycee Dugard an 11 year old from South Lake Tahoe, Calif., who also went missing in 1991, and her safe return in August of this year is cited as a perfect example of why this type of case continues to be aggressively investigated. All information, no matter how small, has been examined and re-examined.
Middle Township police, the Prosecutor’s Office State Police, the FBI and countless other agencies around the country have worked on the investigation. Investigators from these agencies are confident that they will be able to develop new leads with the public’s cooperation. They continue to have the resolve, to carry on this investigation until there is a successful conclusion.
As with any case of this magnitude, cooperation between, the Himebaugh family, all the investigative agencies, as well as input from members of the public are needed to solve this case.
For these reasons, Taylor and Leusner encourage anyone who may have information into the circumstances surrounding Mark Himebaugh’s disappearance to contact Middle Township police at (609) 465-8700, the Prosecutor’s Office at (609) 465-1135, or anonymously to Cape May County Crime Stoppers at (609) 465-2800.
