COURT HOUSE – The Middle Township Police Department is receiving high praise for its participation and involvement in a recent large scale narcotics investigation that resulted in the apprehension of numerous individuals who are accused of distributing drugs in the Township and throughout Cape May and Cumberland Counties.
“The participation in this effort by the Middle Township Police Department was critical to the overall success of the initiative”, said Middle Township Mayor Tim Donohue. “Chief Leusner and his staff deserve a great deal of appreciation from the public for helping to remove these dangerous individuals and drugs from neighbors throughout southern New Jersey”.
June 18, Cape May County Prosecutor Robert Taylor and Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae held a joint press conference to announce the culmination of a two-month long investigation into the distribution of narcotics in both counties. Search warrants were executed in many communities including three in Middle Township. Chief Leusner and his staff provided full cooperation in this investigation which resulted in the recovery of narcotics, weapons, and cash being removed from the streets. The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests may be forthcoming.
“We were very proud to join our colleagues in other municipalities with this large investigation”, Chief Leusner said. “I’m confident that the immediate and long-term ramifications from this effort will result in safer neighborhoods and a reduction in drug activity throughout Middle Township”.
Middle Township will continue its proactive approach to educating the public regarding the dangers of illegal drugs and their impact on our neighborhoods. “We are unfortunately fully aware of the detrimental impacts that narcotics are causing in our area”, Mayor Donohue said. “We realize that this epidemic cuts across all demographics in our township and we are working to find ways to minimize the impacts. Deputy Mayor Lockwood is currently working with Cape Assist to craft literature regarding prevention and treatment utilizing a county-wide approach. His goal is to provide everyone with contact information for all agencies and social services provided in the area.”
