Plan to Ban Marijuana Stores

By Vince Conti

AVALON – Reacting to impending legislation in Trenton that would legalize recreational marijuana, Avalon Borough Council discussed ordinance changes at its Oct. 24 work session.
The goal is to make retail marijuana sales a “prohibited use” under the borough’s zoning regulations.
Citing concerns for public safety, council made clear its desire to ban the growth or sale of marijuana within borough limits.
Nancy Hudanich called the actions being contemplated in Trenton “mind-boggling.” Council is likely to introduce an ordinance at a November meeting in order to allow a public hearing and vote on adoption before year end.
