AVALON – Avalon is amending its zoning code to “reaffirm that the sale of marijuana is a prohibited use within all zoning districts in the borough.” The move comes as the state continues to inch forward on legislation that would legalize recreational marijuana sales.
Avalon Council received a positive reply from the borough’s Planning Board Jan. 9. Assistant Business Administrator James Waldron told council members that the Planning Board saw ordinance changes under consideration as consistent with the Master Plan. State land use law required that the borough refer the zoning code changes for review by the Planning Board.
The last hurdle for the ordinance amendments will be a public hearing expected Feb. 13. Following the hearing, the council can vote to adopt the ban.
