WOODBINE — A New Jersey State Police K9 was attacked by a pit bull when troopers and detectives from the Woodbine Barracks of the New Jersey State Police tried to serve a warrant at 628 Jefferson Ave.
According to a press release, troopers and detectives were attempting to serve an arrest warrant. While approaching the the house the homeowner’s pit bull came from the front door and immediately attacked a State Police K9 and his handler, who were located on the edge of the property. The State Police K9 handler attempted to stop the pit bull’s attack by kicking it, however the pit bull continued to attack and locked its jaws on the State Police K9.
After several more kicks to the pit bull, which were ineffective, the K9 handler discharged his firearm two times, injuring the pit bull.
Animal control officers were summoned to the scene, however the pit bull succumbed to its injuries.
