WOODBINE — Mayor William Pikolycky is pleased to announce that the officers of the Pinelands Municipal Council were sworn in March 13, 2011, by Senator James Whelan.
Officers are: Chairman, William Pikolycky, Mayor, Borough of Woodbine; Vice-Chair, Carol Foster, Mayor, Corbin City; Secretary: Karen Vaccaro, Designee, Berkeley Township; Treasurer: Richard Franzen, Mayor, Tabernacle Township; Member at Large: Deborah Buzby-Cope, Mayor, Bass River Township.
Honored at the meeting were retiring members Anthony “Tony” Mazzella and Chuck Chiarello. Mazzella, representing Berkeley Township, served as secretary from March 2006 to March 2012. Chiarello, of Buena Vista Township, served as Chairman from 1996 to 2012.
The Pinelands Municipal Council was created by the Pinelands Protection Act (N.J.S.A. 13:18A-1 et seq.) and is made up of the mayors of the 53 municipalities in the Pinelands Area or their designees. The Council is empowered to review and comment upon changes proposed by the Pinelands Commission in the New Jersey Pinelands Comprehensive Management Plan. The Council also advises the Commission on matters of interest regarding the Pinelands and takes positions on issues affecting the region. The Council meets periodically to conduct business. The meetings are located in various municipalities throughout the year. A quorum of 15 members of the Council is necessary to take any action. All meetings of the Council are open to the public and interested citizens are encouraged to attend.

Upcoming meetings of the Pinelands Municipal Council will be May 31, at Richard Stockton State College; July 31, at Egg Harbor Township; Sept. 26, at Ocean Township; November 28 at Maurice River Township.
