DENNISVILLE – At its March 26 meeting, Dennis Township Committee approved the installation of speed humps on Hoffman Drive, between Gravel Hole and Schoolhouse roads.
Described as number three asphalt speed humps, with paint markings and signs to identify them, the cost of installation is $11,400. Advanced Pavement Group is the selected contractor after a competitive bid, and the Dennis Township Public Works Department will help install the signs and road markings.
The impetus behind the speed bumps’ installation is a petition submitted to the township clerk, signed by the residents on Hoffman Drive, requesting the installation of speed humps as a traffic calming measure for the road. The petition cited a pedestrian hit-and-run accident on the residential street, as well as a dog killed by a speeding motorist.
The petition notes that Hoffman Drive residents have seen their street used as a supposed shortcut between routes 47 and 83, which has led to speeding instances. The project’s anticipated start date is during the week of April 6 and will take several days to complete, weather permitting.
