CAPE MAY – Cape May City Council held a special closed meeting July 17 to reach a final agreement concerning the ongoing Police Benevolent Association bargaining negotiations.
In open session, the council approved the four-year contract which City Manager Neil Young said had an overall impact of a 2.1-percent increase. “The union understood our need to keep contract increase in the 2 percent range,” Young said.
The previous contract expired Dec. 1, 2017, the day before the New Jersey 2 percent arbitration cap expired for police and fire salaries. Arbitration was not required to reach an agreement in this case.
