By Carl Price

VILLAS – Lower Township Council introduced the first reading of the township salary ordinance Dec. 3 that includes a raise for council and the mayor of $2,500.
The second reading and public comment will take place at the Dec. 17 council meeting.
Salaries for the mayor and council have not changed since 2016 and must be reviewed every two years by state law.
Mayor Erik Simonsen said the salary figure is comparable to other municipalities.
Simonsen earns $18,000 as mayor, which would increase to $20,500. Council members earn $15,000 and would be paid $17,500 if the ordinance passes.
