Pay by Cell to Park in Wildwood

By Press Release

WILDWOOD — This summer, scrounging for an elusive quarter or sprinting from lunch to beat the meter maid are nuisances that Wildwood residents and visitors will no longer have to bear.
Mobile payment of parking meters will be available in July as an alternative to coin payment. The system allows drivers to reserve meters using just a cell phone. Maximum time for the spot will automatically be booked, but one may stop the transaction when leaving before the time is up. After first-time usage, which is free of charge, drivers can register with the secure iControl system by phone or online and deposit money in a pre-paid account (similar to EZ-pass).
Drivers can set up the account before visiting Wildwood or at the meter. Once a driver has registered, the system will recognize the cell phone number and automatically associate it with the meter account on record.
“Along with making things easier for individual parkers, mobile payment also is expected to greatly decrease the time that vehicles remain in spaces beyond their maximum limit,” Mayor Gary DeMarzo said. “During busy summer months, that means greater turnover of spaces as well.”
The city has signed a three-year contract with iControl Mobile Payment Solutions, a company that has implemented mobile meter payment with several major cities.
In September of 2011, pre-payment for specified increments of time will be available. Customers will also be able to receive text message reminders of expiring meter time and renew their meter remotely.
