PETERSBURG – Upper Township Committee held its reorganization Jan. 4 with Mayor Richard Palombo and Deputy Mayor Edward Barr taking their oaths of office from Municipal Clerk Barbara Young.
Palombo’s father, Aldo Palombo, a long-time mayor of North Wildwood, quipped, “He now will be serving as mayor for 20 years. I served for 12 years, and he’s much younger, so this could go on forever.”
The presentation of colors was done this year by Girl Scout Troops 44480 and 42422 which, as Palombo noted, is a change from preceding years when the Boy Scouts presented the flags.
Mia Pancoast performed the national anthem.
Palombo noted as 2018 achievements, aligned with the township’s motto “Preserving the past while looking to the future,” COAH obligation settlement, road improvements, beach replenishment, roof repair of the municipal building, asbestos removal of the former town hall and finishing up the Great Egg Harbor Bridge project with Beesley’s Point amenities soon to come to fruition.
He also thanked and praised Township employees who “work very hard to make all residents proud including in the middle of the night to clear snow during storms.”
