WASHINGTON, DC – Representatives Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) and Frank LoBiondo (NJ-02) released the following statement upon news that the State of New Jersey is appealing the September 2013 ruling of the Third Circuit barring New Jersey from allowing sports wagering in the state to the U.S. Supreme Court:
“We applaud the State of New Jersey for appealing the decision from the Third Circuit to the U.S. Supreme Court. We have long believed our state should be allowed to move forward with sports wagering as the people of New Jersey clearly support it. We have introduced federal legislation to allow the State of New Jersey to implement its law and authorize legalized sports wagering. In parallel to today’s appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, we remain committed to continuing our push to pass legislation that we have proposed that would bring legal sports wagering to New Jersey.”
In September 2013 a three judge panel in the Third Circuit of the U.S. Court of Appeals split 2-1 in its decision that upheld a District Court ruling against New Jersey.
