Ostrander Named C.E.R.T. Coordinator

CREST HAVEN – Lewis M. Ostrander was appointed the coordinator for the Cape May County Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.) by freeholders’ action April 9.
The appointment continues until Dec. 31, 2019, and began Jan. 1.
Freeholders passed a resolution urging the state Department of Transportation to “take immediate action to fully fund and construct the bridge interconnection of the Somers Point Bike Path and the Garden State Parkway Southbound Bridge.”
The document states there is no existing adequate pedestrian walkway or bike path to link that Atlantic County municipality, the Route 52 Bridge pedestrian walkway and bike path and the parkway bridge.
The resolution noted that “biking is a significant activity enjoyed by individuals, families, groups organized sports, and extreme athletes and is an activity important to the residents of Atlantic and Cape May counties and our tourism-driven economies.”
In other action the board:
* Awarded a $1.4-million contract to South State Inc. of Bridgeton for Ocean Drive (CR 621) over Upper Thorofare and Mill Creek Bridge repair and approach guide rail replacement, Phase 1. Three bids were submitted for the job.
* As the result of a Feb. 1 study by I.H. Engineers, a four-way stop intersection will be created at Church Road (CR 602) and Stagecoach Road (CR 667) in Upper Township. Signs will be placed to alert motorists.
